Why Offroad Grit Uses 2mm Plank Flooring (Not Vinyl Sheets)

When you're building a serious offroad caravan, every material matters, especially the flooring. That’s why at Offroad Grit, we use 2mm vinyl planks instead of a single vinyl sheet. It's a small detail that makes a big difference out on the tracks.
So, why planks over a full sheet?
Let’s break it down.
1. It Doesn’t Go Under the Cabinets — On Purpose
In many traditional builds, a full vinyl sheet runs under cabinetry. Sounds neat, right? But in reality, it creates more problems than it solves.
At Offroad Grit, our planks are laid after the cabinetry is installed, not under it. That means:
No unnecessary material where it’s not needed
No risk of trapped air or stress points under heavy furniture
A cleaner, smarter finish
2. Easy to Repair — One Plank at a Time
One of the biggest advantages? Simple, stress-free repairs.
If you drop something sharp or heavy and damage a section of flooring, you don’t need to rip up the entire floor. With plank flooring, we can:
Replace just the damaged piece
Avoid cutting around cabinets or fittings
Get you back on the road faster
Try doing that with a one-piece vinyl sheet… not fun.

3. No Bubbles from Cabinet Movement
Offroad vans flex. It's the nature of rugged travel, corrugations, shifting loads, and sometimes extreme heat.
When cabinets move or settle even slightly in a van with vinyl sheet flooring, the sheet can pull, stretch, or bubble. Once that happens, it’s nearly impossible to fix without replacing the whole floor.
With planks? No stretching. No bubbling. No worries.
Final Thoughts
Choosing 2mm planks instead of vinyl sheets might seem like a small decision, but it’s part of the bigger picture: building smarter, tougher, and more repairable offroad caravans.
At Offroad Grit, we sweat the small stuff, because out in the bush, the little things matter.
